The cartoner plays an essential role in automating the packaging of various products in cardboard cartons. This automation improves production efficiency, ensures uniform product presentation and optimises protection during transport and storage.
Whether automatic, semi-automatic or robotised, ETPACK offers solutions tailored to your needs for the fast, accurate production of your product packaging.
From folding carton to protected product: the complete cycle of the industrial cartoner
The main role of a cartoner is to automate the packing of products into cartons, guaranteeing fast, accurate and secure packaging. It operates in several successive stages:
Case feeding
The cartoner is equipped with a magazine containing flat cardboard cartons. These cartons are generally ready to be filled. Depending on the machine model, the feed can be continuous or intermittent to match the production rate.
Taking and shaping cases
A system of suction cups and mechanical arms removes a case from the magazine and sets it in volume. The case is then held in the open position by guides.
Inserting the product
The product can be inserted into the case by mechanical pushing. A pusher pushes the product into the case.
Closing and sealing the case
Once the product has been inserted, the case is closed using a number of different fastening systems:
- Hot-melt gluing: a hot-melt glue applicator applies a thin layer to the flaps, which are then pressed together to ensure a strong closure.
- Window, economy flaps and special shapes
Differences between automatic, semi-automatic and robotic cartoners
- Automatic cartoners: these machines handle the entire cartoning process without human intervention, from opening the carton to closing it once the product has been inserted. They are ideal for large-scale production requiring high speeds.
- Semi-automatic cartoners: these automate certain stages, such as opening and closing the cartons, but require manual intervention to insert the products. These machines are suitable for small to medium-scale production or for products requiring delicate handling.
- Robotic cartoners: equipped with advanced robotic systems, these cartoners offer greater flexibility by adapting to a variety of formats and product types. They are particularly well suited to diversified production lines requiring frequent configuration changes.
